HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-06-21 Parks and Trail Minutes CITY OF CORCORAN Parks and Trails Commission Meeting Minutes June 21, 2016 - 7:00pm The Corcoran Parks and Trails Commission met on June 21, 2016, at City Hall in Corcoran, MN. Present were, Commissioners - Anderson, Krueger, Nybo, and Regan Absent: Commissioners Meister, Robran, Strehler, and Student Commissioner Beck Also present were City Administrator Martens and Seasonal Recreation Coordinator Kesselring. 1. Call to Order / Roll Call Chairperson Anderson called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. 2. Pledge of Allegiance Chairperson Anderson invited all in attendance to rise and join in the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Agenda Approval a. Agenda Motion: Made by Nybo, seconded by Krueger, to approve the agenda as presented. Voting Aye: Anderson, Krueger, Nybo, and Regan (Motion carried 4:0) 4. Minutes a. Minutes – April 19, 2016 Motion: Made by Regan, seconded by Nybo, to approve the minutes as presented. Voting Aye: Anderson, Krueger, Nybo, and Regan (Motion carried 4:0) 5. Open Forum - None 6. Presentations - None 7. Old/Unfinished Business a. Pollinator Plot Installation Project Update Chairperson Anderson provided an update on the planting that took place on June 8th with help from volunteers. The Commission thanked Commissioner Meister for her work leading the project. Chairperson Anderson informed the Commission of an upcoming Garden Club meeting taking place on June 28th. 8. New Business a. Neighborhood Park Research Seasonal Recreation Coordinator Kesselring presented the research completed on various 2-5 acre parks around the metro area. The presentation included preferred park amenities, successes, failures, items for consideration, and trends in parks and recreation. The Commission discussed the information presented and the next steps in park planning. Staff was directed to look into opportunities to work with the University of Minnesota to secure assistance in park planning. b. 2017 Budget and Fee Schedule The Commission discussed budget priorities for 2017. By consensus the Commission requested $1,000 in the 2017 budget to attend trainings on various park related topics. c. Rotating Commission Members at Council Meetings The Commission discussed the opportunity to attend meetings as a liaison of the commission. The schedule was adjusted in order for individuals to attend the meetings. d. Downtown Utility and Street Improvement Project Update Administrator Martens updated the Commission on the progress of the downtown utility and street improvement project. CITY OF CORCORAN e. 2016 Pollinator Summit Staff presented an upcoming pollinator summit; the Commission recommended Sharon Meister attend if available and if approved by Council 9. Reports/Information a. Items from Scheduled May Meeting The report reviewed by Commission. b. Active Planning Applications – Informational only, no action taken 10. Subcommittee and Miscellaneous Reports a. City Council Report The Report was reviewed by the Commission. b. Athletic Association Seasonal Recreation Coordinator Kesselring updated the Commission on athletic association activities. c. Park Dedication Fund – Informational only 11. Other Business/Announcements Commissioner Nybo informed the Commission about an upcoming blood drive. 12. Adjournment Motion: Made by Krueger, seconded by Nybo, to adjourn the meeting at 8:40 pm.
