HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2013-64 - Approving reorganization of Police DepartmentCity of Corcoran County of Hennepin State of Minnesota CITY OF CORCORAN HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 2013 -64 Motion By: Thomas Seconded By: Asleson December 23, 2013 APPROVING THE REORGANIZATION OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, the City of Corcoran, Minnesota (the "City ") has the authority to hire, fire, promote, demote and transfer all employees of the City and to establish the organizational structure of the City; and WHEREAS, the City has reviewed the organizational structure of the Police Department and recommends changes to improve the overall service and efficiency of the City; and WHEREAS, the proposed reorganization is intended to improve the efficiency of the department and to prepare for the future needs of the department; and WHEREAS, the impacted employees have been provided verbal notice of the proposed reorganization; and WHEREAS, article 3.7 of the Labor Agreement states that the Corporal position is assigned by the Chief of Police and article 30.4 of the Labor Agreement states that the Corporal is to be compensated at six percent over top patrol officer wage; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has assigned the Corporal position in the police department to Ryan Burns; and WHEREAS, staff has updated the relevant job descriptions for the proposed reorganization, which are attached to this Resolution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORCORAN, MINNESOTA, that it should and hereby does approve the following: 1. The above - referenced recitals are incorporated herein to this Resolution; 2. Effective January 1, 2014 Paula Steelman, Public Safety Administrative Assistant shall move to the Year 1 Step of Grade 6, future Step increases shall take place on the anniversary of that date if approved by the City; 3. Effective January 1, 2014 employee Ryan Burns shall be promoted to Corporal; the initial wage for this position shall be six percent over the top patrol officer wage. Future increases shall be adjusted as agreed upon in the Union Contract; City of Corcoran County of Hennepin State of Minnesota CITY OF CORCORAN HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 2013 -64 December 23, 2013 4. For the purposes of leave accrual under the Employee Handbook Ms. Steelman and Mr. Burns respective anniversary dates shall continue to be the dates that they were originally hired by the City. 5. The City approves the revised Job Descriptions for Public Safety Administrative Assistant and Corporal.
