RESOLUTION NO. 2002-02

A RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR A MAYORAL PRIMARY ELECTION
WHEREAS, the Corcoran Charter Commission has reviewed the matter of
conducting a Mayoral primary election within the City and has recommended to the City
Council that such a primary election be authorized; and
WHEREAS,the Corcoran City Council has considered this recommendation and has
concluded that having a Mayoral primary election would be beneficial to the City in that it
would permit the two candidates with the greatest number of primary votes to concentrate
their efforts on the general election; and
WHEREAS, Minn. Stat. §205.065 sets forth the requirements of establishing a
primary election, which may be by Resolution or Ordinance.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CORCORAN CITY COUNCIL RESOLVES:
1. That commencing in calendar year 2002, Corcoran shall conduct a Mayoral
primary election in accordance with Minn. Stat. §205.065.
2. That the City Administrator is directed to proceed in accordance with the above-
referenced statute and to take all necessary steps for the City of Corcoran to
conduct a Mayoral primary election in 2002 and in subsequent general elections
until this Resolution is vacated.
