Re: Code Enforcement Review and Priorities for 2022
____________________________________________________________________
On January 19, 2022 the City Council met to review and update the City’s mission,
vison, values, core strategies, and short-term goals. Council identified code
enforcement policies and the impact on staffing and the budget as a short-term goal for
2022. Staff recommended a work session to understand our code enforcement policy
and outline our priorities for 2022.
Options for Policies Code Enforcement:
Proactive – Proactive sweeps for code violations.
Hybrid – A middle step where some code enforcement areas are proactive and when
staff are made aware of issues bring action forward (i.e. violations that a formal
complaint is not made however staff is made aware of the issue).
Complaint Based – Only move forward if complaints are received on a property.
Once a policy is determined staff would like to understand the priorities. Sign violations
and properties with multiple violations are examples of the code enforcement priorities
the City has had in the past. Staff would like to understand if the priority code
enforcement items.
