HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-13 Parks Trails HS ResolutionCity of Corcoran County of Hennepin State of Minnesota Motion By: Thomas Seconded By: Grabowski FINDINGS OF FACT A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE AN AMENDMENT TO TITLE III: ADMINISTRATION; CHAPTER 36; PARKS AND TRAILS COMMISSION; COMPOSITION. (36.11) the ADDITION OF A HIGH SCHOOL COMMISSION MEMBER WHEREAS, the Parks &Trails Commission believes in Community involvement and the impact that the Parks and Trails programs and projects have on our community youth and future generations, the Commission requests the addition of a resident High School Student to the Parks and Trails Commission. WHEREAS, the Parks &Trails Commission understands the value of information and participation of youth; the Commission also understands the value of Community service to the future goals of our youth. This opportunity is a shared, valuable learning tool and a tangible community volunteer asset for our youth and our City, as they build a resume of experience. WHEREAS, the Parks and Trails Commission consists of 9 regular members and 3 alternate members, the High School Commission member would be a regular member subject to City Council appointment for a one year term without voting or office responsibility. Attendance of the High School commissioner would not apply to the meeting quorum requirement. The High School commissioner would participate in discussions and decisions, gather and share information and opinions from the community, and serve on sub -committees and projects as a volunteer. NOW THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Parks &Trails Commission does hereby accept the resolution for the addition of a high School Student Commissioner. Upon acceptance of this resolution by the City Council, the Parks &Trails Commission will provide the City Council with an appropriate rewrite of Chapter 13.11 to include the addition of the Commissioner for Council approval and an appropriate Public Hearing.
