WORKSHOP

Mayor Guenthner opened the workshop at 6:00 p.m., on May 10, 2001. The
purpose of the workshop was to address the employee handbook.
Present were Councilors Gageby, Gmach, Guenthner, Thomas, Administrator
Colotti, Clerk Vergin and Attorney Carson. Councilor Bucher arrived later.
The handbook was gone through section by section.
Resources and Disclaimer – amend to better identify at-will and contract
employees.
Grievance Policy – add more specific language and identify a time frame, try to
keep similar to existing employee contracts and union contract.
Reference Checks – discussed, left as is.
Resignations - amended language by removing the right to deny unused benefits
upon termination.
Insurance – Due to some changes to the rules Administrator Colotti was directed
to check with the city’s carrier and determine what benefits the city is required to
offer upon retirement.
Dental Insurance – deleted.
Overtime – Clarified the work week hours to match with payroll. Directed
Administrator Colotti to verify limits on accumulated compensatory hours.
Family & Medical Leave - Deleted as covered by State Law. Deleted per LMC
information which stated 50 or more employees was the exclusive qualifier,
thereby disqualifying the city of Corcoran from the FMLA requirements.
Sick Leave – Some minor wording adjustments.
Left off at Vacation.
It was the consensus of the council to spend time at the beginning of the next
workshop session of May 24, 2001 to finish with the handbook.
A motion was made to adjourn the workshop.
