The purpose of the workshop was to address the City’s 2003 preliminary budget, specifically the Police Department. Present were Councilors Bucher, Gageby, Gmach, Guenthner and Thomas. City Staff present included Administrator Vergin, Clerk/Treasurer Tillmann, and Police Chief Schutte. The agenda was approved by consensus. Administrator Vergin provided an overview of the preliminary levy for 2003. The 2003 Budget was created based on the levy amount allowable by the State for 2003. The preliminary budget was adopted by the Council on September 12, 2002. For 2003, the Police Department is requesting the addition of one Police Officer. Police Chief Schutte advised that he is requesting an additional Police Officer in 2003 to help with coverage during peak times and employee absences (vacations, comp time, etc.) because the Police Department cannot meet current service demands with existing staff. Funding is available through a $75,000 grant that the City will be receiving. It will be paid out over a three-year period. Council was advised that Police Department revenues are down because Officers are not able to spend as much time on the streets handling traffic calls. The next Budget Workshop will be scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2002 at 6:00 p.m. The 2003 Public Works Department budget will be discussed at that time. Mayor Guenthner recessed the workshop at 6:59 p.m. ____________________________ Kary Tillmann, City Clerk Opened Roll Call Accept Agenda Review of 2003 Preliminary Budget Police Department
